FAMILIA COMING HOME?

Mets done flip-flopping at 3rd, turn to Reynolds

-

The Mets perhaps will avoid another situation like they were in Wednesday, when catcher Travis d’Arnaud had to flip-flop between second and third base all game. They placed infielder Jose Reyes on the disabled list with a left oblique strain on Thursday and called up Matt Reynolds from Triple-A Las Vegas. They also sent down RHP Kevin McGowan and brought up Gavin Cecchini to give them enough infield depth with Wilmer Flores also hurting with a rib cage issue. Reynolds will get a shot as the Mets’ third baseman. He went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run.

Reyes doesn’t consider his injury serious. “It’s better to take a few days (off) than miss the rest of the season,” Reyes said before Thursday’s Subway Series finale against the Yankees.

Reyes was scratched from Wednesday’s lineup against the Yankees due to the injury.

He previously strained his left oblique muscle last season with the Mets in late July. He missed 17 games as a result of the injury.

Reyes described the injury as frustrating since he has remained relatively healthy this season until now.

“It’s just weird because I feel like I was playing basically the whole season without injury. I was feeling good,” Reyes said. “As a baseball player you don’t want to go on the DL. I like to be on the field one way or the other.” pitchers this season. Austin could start at least once this weekend in Boston.

Jeurys Familia threw a scoreless inning with one walk and one strikeout in his first major league rehab appearance Wednesday night. The Mets expect him to make another rehab appearance this weekend and then bring him a little closer to get a look.

“The next week, I am not sure what day it is. Then we’re going to try and bring him up here,” Terry Collins said. “Maybe to Brooklyn.”
