2nd officer dies in Florida attack
THE FLORIDA POLICE sergeant wounded in an attack that also killed his partner died Saturday afternoon, officials said.
Sgt. Sam Howard, 36, (bottom photo) had been gravely wounded Friday night during a confrontation with suspect Everett Miller (top), Kissimmee police said.
Authorities had reported Howard’s death prematurely late Friday night.
Miller, 45, was charged with first-degree murder for shooting officer Matthew Baxter (middle), 26. Additional charges are expected to be filed after Howard’s death.
The lawmen came into contact with Miller, reportedly a Marine veteran, at about 9:30 p.m. Friday while on patrol in Kissimmee. After a struggle, Miller blasted them before taking off, Kissimmee Chief Jeff O’Dell said.
The incident was part of a chaotic night in which six cops were shot across the country.
