The plan is for Masahiro Tanaka to come off the disabled list and start for the Yankees on Tuesday in Detroit. Tanaka is currently on the 10day DL due to inflammati­on in his right shoulder.

“Our plan is for Tuesday if everything goes the way it’s supposed to,” Girardi said Saturday.

Tanaka, 28, is 8-10 with a 4.92 ERA in 23 starts.

The Bombers also sent Jordan Montgomery down to Triple-A to make room for CC Sabathia. Sabathia (knee) started on Saturday night against Red Sox ace Chris Sale. Montgomery, the 24-year-old rookie lefty, is 7-6 with a 4.00 ERA in 23 starts.

“We’ve tried to limit some of the innings on him — and we’ve tried to do it a couple times — but because of injuries it hasn’t worked,” Girardi said.

“He’s really pitched pretty well, but we’re trying to reduce it because he’s near 130 innings (126), he was at 150 (152) last year and he could have eight more starts. And the innings are just so much more stressful up here. So yes, it’s about today, but it’s also about tomorrow and
