MAKE SAINT A JET

-

In the event Todd Bowles doesn’t survive what is going to be a really bad Jets season, here’s the coach Ambassador Johnson should make a run at: Sean Payton of the Saints. There were talks the last two years between the Saints and Colts about a trade of Payton for draft choices, but they couldn’t agree on compensation. Apparently, the Saints initiated the talks after the 2016 season. With Drew Brees now 38, Payton moving on after this season for lots of Johnson’s money would make sense. If the Jets draft a quarterback in the top part of the first round in 2018, perhaps as high as No. 1, Payton is the one coach I want developing him. Well, I would also want Jim Harbaugh, but he’s not leaving Michigan. Payton is 53 and idolizes Parcells. If the Jets get the QB they want in 2018, then I would give up a 2019 firstround pick for Payton. He’s won a Super Bowl and knows what New York is all about after working for the Giants from 1999-2002 before joining Parcells in Dallas . ... Harold Henderson, the former executive director of the NFL Management Council, will hear Ezekiel Elliott’s appeal of his six-game suspension for domestic violence, on Aug. 29, most likely in New York. Sources say the agreement is Henderson will issue a ruling within three days. Andrew Luck
