DONTODETAIL AFGHAN PLAN

-

PRESIDENT TRUMP has a plan for the future of America’s war in Afghanistan and will announce it in a prime-time address Monday, the administration officials said Sunday. The White House said Trump will “provide an update on the path forward” during a speech at Fort Myer in Arlington, Va. Officials gave no indication of what the announcement will entail. Trump spent the final days of his vacation meeting with national security aides to discuss options for America’s longest war. He tweeted Saturday that there were “decisions made,” “including on Afghanistan.” Defense Secretary James Mattis told reporters Sunday that Trump made up his mind after a “sufficiently rigorous” review that began in January. The President has been weighing whether to add troops to the 16-year war on terror groups, which has hit a stalemate after three administrations. Top Trump officials, including Vice President Pence and national security adviser H.R. McMaster, have reportedly pushed for Trump to add thousands of troops to the battle. Trump in June gave Mattis the authority to determine troop levels.
