On assault charge

CLEVELAND — Giants offensive lineman Michael Bowie, who was charged with domestic assault and battery after allegedly attacking his girlfriend, turned himself in to the Tulsa County Courthouse on Monday morning.

Bowie paid his $17,000 bond and was released with an arraignment set for 9 a.m. Aug. 29, the Daily News has learned.

Agent Peter Schaffer of Authentic Athletix told The News he is working hard to prove his client is innocent of the three charges behind the warrant issued for his arrest last Friday, which include the one count of domestic assault and battery and two counts of malicious injury or destruction of property.

Tulsa’s KOTV-6 had reported that Bowie, 25, allegedly grabbed his girlfriend by the throat, threw her to the ground, punched a hole in the wall and broke two televisions earlier this summer.

“Michael is an upstanding man, very remorseful about any negative publicity this might bring to the Giants and to the NFL,” Schaffer told The News Monday. “We are going to work tirelessly to make sure he is exonerated. We’ve talked to all the witnesses and are 100% confident that nothing happened.”

Bowie, a 2013 seventhround Seattle draft pick who won a Super Bowl with the Seahawks in his rookie year, reported to the courthouse on Monday at 11:23 a.m. CT, paid his bond, and was released shortly after at 12:07 p.m.

The Giants on Saturday responded by leaving Bowie off the road trip for their second preseason game against the Cleveland Browns.

The NFL’s domestic violence policy calls for a minimum of a six-game suspension if the commissioner deems it warranted, regardless of the player’s conviction in court.
