Goon gives up in Va. violence
A WHITE supremacist wanted on three felony charges connected to the rallies in Charlottesville, Va., turned himself in to police in Wednesday.
Chris Cantwell, 36, admitted to The Associated Press a day earlier that he pepper-sprayed a counterprotester, but insisted he was defending himself, saying he did it “because my only other option was knocking out his teeth.”
Cantwell (photo) is being held at the Blue Ridge Regional Jail after surrendering to Lynchburg police, Charlottesville’s The Daily Progress first reported.
The far-right blogger was arrested on two counts of illegal use of tear gas and one count of malicious bodily injuries.
Cantwell was prominently featured in a Vice News documentary about the white supremacists, neo-Nazis and other alt-right groups gathered in Charlottesville on Aug. 12. In the video, he spoke about his desire to create a white “ethno-state,” and said, “I’m trying to make myself more capable of violence.”
