Line, Jones gets reps with first team

“We’re not gonna freak out about it,” Richburg said. “We’re working.”

OV GOES DEEP

If there is one play that stood out on the defensive side from Monday night, it was probably defensive end Olivier Vernon dropping way back in coverage and breaking up a pass deep down field.

Teammate Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie was among the many impressed.

“I definitely didn’t think it was OV, then I see everybody slapping his hand on the sideline, I was lost,” he said. “Then I looked back on the film and was like that’s nice. You wouldn’t expect an end to do that.”

Asked if he was worried Vernon could replace him in the slot, Rodgers-Cromartie laughed. “Leave him where he’s at,” he said. “Let him rush the pass.”

McADOO’S SHADY REPORT

McAdoo strangely would not specify why defensive back Valentino Blake missed Wednesday’s practice.

“We had a couple guys we had to leave inside today, and we’ll leave it at that,” McAdoo said.

Blake played a team-high 45 snaps (35 defense, 10 special teams) in the Giants’ loss Monday night in Cleveland. He missed some days in camp with a back ailment.

The Giants later released a brief statement that Blake had been placed on the exempt/left squad list on Wednesday. WRs Odell Beckham (sprained left ankle) and Brandon Marshall (left shoulder), LB Keenan Robinson (concussion) and DB Michael Hunter (concussion) missed Wednesday’s practice. So did WRs Dwayne Harris (upper-body) and Tavarres King (sprained right ankle), though those two at least worked out on the side. Marshall stood on the sideline watching practice. DB Eli Apple, OL Adam Gettis and LB J.T. Thomas all returned to practice from injuries. LB Mark Herzlich (stinger) practiced non-contact. — with John Healy
