Chelsea: Hil happy, even if U.S. isn’t
HILLARY IS over it. Chelsea Clinton told guests at billionaire scion Alex Soros’ Hamptons home that her mom is “fine” after her election loss. “She said that people are always asking her if her mom is OK and she assures them that she’s recovered from the defeat,” according to our insider. Chelsea (photo) also told guests that after a long, hard campaign, her mom is “happy to be away from the daily grind” and hasn’t been dwelling on last November’s stunning election loss to Donald Trump. “What’s really important to her is that she’s had this time to spend with Bill, her and the grandkids,” our insider heard Chelsea say. Hillary Clinton became a grandmother for the second time in June 2016, when Chelsea gave birth to her son Aidan Mezvinsky. But Grandma was busy on the campaign trail at the time. According to our source, Chelsea said that this is the first time in recent memory that Hillary has been able to enjoy summer weekends in the Hamptons and elsewhere, where “every breakfast, lunch, dinner, etc., wasn’t a campaign fund-raiser” and the media wasn’t focused on how she spent her time.
However, Chelsea said that her mom will be on the road again soon to promote her book “What Happened,” which hits stores on Sept. 12.
We’re also told that Chelsea didn’t spend a lot of time discussing her own much-talked-about political ambitions. The 37-year-old Stanford grad has expressed an interest in public service in the past, though she told CNN in April that she has no immediate plans to pursue any sort of elected office.
Chelsea did get a surprising personal endorsement from First Lady Melania Trump on Wednesday. Melania tweeted her appreciation to the former First Daughter in response to Chelsea’s earlier call for media outlets to stop teasing 11-year-old Barron Trump over his appearance.
“Thank you @ ChelseaClinton — so important to support all of our children in being themselves!” the First Lady posted on Twitter.
