Penn hell ends 9/5

-

THREE MAJOR railroads that use Penn Station plan to resume regular train service on Sept. 5, following two months of track repairs.

Amtrak, NJ Transit and the Long Island Rail Road said Thursday they will end the service changes heralded as the “Summer of Hell.” Though the cutbacks never reached that dreaded level, they did inconvenience hundreds of thousands of commuters in the New York region since July 10.

Amtrak said the project is being completed on schedule. Two derailments and other problems in the spring prompted Amtrak to speed up its repair schedule.
