A Calypso Rose blooms in N.Y.C.
Calypso Rose — the world famous, award-winning Tobago-born singer who has recently been taking France and Europe by storm — is coming to headline the star-studded “Calypso Rose and Friends” show Wednesday in Manhattan at the Stage 48 concert venue, 605 W. 48th St.
The event will feature special guest performances by Grammy Award-winning writer/performer Angela Hunte, award-winning soca superstar David Rudder and 2017 Road March Champions, the Ultimate Rejects with MX Prime, are part of the lineup joining Rose for the show, which will be backed musically by the Toronto-based Neo Calypso ensemble, Kobo Town.

‘One Destiny’ for Guyanese revelers
The Guyanese-led “One Destiny Mas” costume band is geared up to march in the New York Caribbean Carnival Parade on Labor Day Monday, Sept. 4 — and the Caribbean Guyana Institute for Democracy organization is a part of the band’s festive movement.
The institute recently announced a partnership and public relations initiative in support of “One Destiny,” the creation of Guyanese-American designer Zeelema Verwayne. Lyrikal coming to school kids ‘party’
International music star Lyrikal is known worldwide, but he’s making the time to participate in the Caribbean American Center of New York’s free, annual Stay in School Party, today in Brooklyn’s Cadman Plaza Park, Cadman Plaza West and Tillary St., from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
With needy children in mind, 200 students will receive school supplies for the coming year. And there will be live performances, games and refreshments at the family-friendly event. Next month, the center will hold its fund-raising 2017 Role Models of Distinction Awards and Scholarship Benefit Gala on Sept. 8. Ex-Trinidad PM due in city
Trinidad and Tobago opposition leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar is coming to town and will be the guestof-honor at events hosted by the Queensbased Trinidadians and Tobagonians, USA organization, according to T&TUSA advisor Ashford Maharaj. Persad-Bissessar — the United National Congress party leader who served as the twin-island nation’s first female prime minister from 2010 to 2012 — will participate in private and public events, including the annual Family Day today in Queens at Smokey Oval Park, 127th St. and 95th Ave., and an Independence Anniversary Gala.
