Mayor warns of elex peril
EXPECTED TO face an easy reelection, Mayor de Blasio hit the campaign trail Sunday with a warning: Voters could face an ugly surprise if they take the outcome for granted.
“We don’t want people walking around in the aftermath of this election like they did on the morning of Nov. 9, wishing they had taken the time to go to the polls,” Hizzoner told the congregation at Maranatha Baptist Church in Queens, citing the surprise victory of President Trump last year.
“When you don’t vote, you can have unintended consequences.”
De Blasio faces former City Councilman Sal Albanese and a handful of other little-known challengers in a Democratic primary next month, and is expected to face Republican Nicole Malliotakis in the general election in November.
De Blasio greeted voters in Forest Hills, Queens, and at Orchard Beach in the Bronx with both boroughs’ presidents.
While he faced a few hecklers in Forest Hills, a more enthusiastic crowd awaited at Orchard Beach, where de Blasio’s team asked voters to sign cards pledging to cast their ballots for him.
“We’ve got too many people who don’t know about the primary,” de Blasio told a voter.
