Demand info on 2G lost computers

-

CITY CONTROLLER Scott Stringer is demanding answers from city education officials on nearly 2,000 computers that have gone missing — and threatening to hit them with subpoenas if they don’t cooperate. “If they don’t give me the information . . . they’re going to have to deal with a flurry of subpoenas,” Stringer said Sunday on the John Catsimatidis AM 970 radio show. “We’re not letting go of this.” An audit by Stringer last month found that 1,817 laptops, desktops and tablets that were supposed to be at eight schools and one Department of Education office could not be found. In a letter he planned to send to Schools Chancellor Carmen Fariña on Monday, Stringer asks for the status of a top-to-bottom review he wants DOE to conduct of its technology inventory. “We’ll review this letter when we actually get it,” said DOE spokesman Will Mantell. “These audits’ findings are flawed and we’ll continue our work to improve all technology inventory systems.”
