Grisly S.I. find after ferry leap

- John Annese

A MAN’S body washed up near the Verrazano Bridge on Monday, just days after a passenger leaped from the Staten Island ferry into New York Bay.

Police recovered the body on the shore of Von Briesen Park in Fort Wadsworth, near the easternmost area of Staten Island, just before 8:30 p.m.

On Thursday, a man jumped off the saloon deck of the Spirit of America at 10:10 p.m., as the boat headed from Manhattan to the St. George ferry terminal. NYPD, FDNY and Coast Guard boats searched for the man Thursday night, calling off the effort just before midnight.

The unidentified man plunged into the water as the boat passed the Statue of Liberty — about 5 miles north of where the body washed ashore Monday night.
