Confed flags banner days
DEMAND FOR Confederate flags has surged since violence erupted at a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Va., this month, retailers report. But most major U.S. flagmakers no longer produce them, because of their controversial nature, so much of the new demand is being filled by imports from China and other countries. Large retailers, including Walmart, Amazon.com, eBay and Sears, stopped selling the flags in 2015 after flag-toting white supremacist Dylann Roof gunned down nine members of a predominantly black church. The flags can still be found at independent shops, websites with cheap imports, flea markets and smaller makers such as the Southern Pride Flag Co, whose website says it is located in “occupied Georgia.”
