Mueller and AG eric team on inquiries
SPECIAL COUNSEL Robert Mueller has enlisted the help of New York’s top prosecutor in his investigation into Paul Manafort, according to a report on Wednesday.
New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is working with Mueller’s team to probe the finances of President Trump’s former campaign chairman, Politico reported.
Schneiderman’s office and Mueller’s investigators have “shared evidence and talked frequently in recent weeks about a potential case,” sources told the website.
Mueller heads the federal probe into possible coordination between Russia and the Trump campaign.
His investigation reportedly also includes other possible crimes linked to Trump associates.
Moving forward with state charges could prove useful, as Trump’s pardon power only extends to federal crimes.
A spokeswoman for Schneiderman’s office declined to comment.
It also emerged on Wednesday that a Russian lobbyist who attended a Trump Tower meeting between a Kremlin-linked lawyer and Trump’s eldest son has testified before the grand jury.
Rinat Akhmetshin, a former Soviet army officer, was part of a controversial 2016 meeting with Donald Trump Jr., then-campaign head Manafort, White House senior adviser Jared Kushner and Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya.
Akhmetshin testified before the jury for several hours on Aug. 11, according to the Financial Times.
