The President’s generosity

-

President Trump’s promise to commit $1 million in personal funds for Hurricane Harvey relief is a welcome gesture to the people of a traumatized region, one that should inspire many more Americans of means to join in an outpouring of aid to the thousands devastated and displaced.

And — sorry we have to say this — here’s hoping Trump cuts the check as soon as possible.

Sooner, that is, than the four months it took him to deliver on a past $1 million pledge to aid veterans made in the runup to the Republican primaries, and then only when reporters demanded to know where the funds were.

This year, The Washington Post’s David Fahrenthold won the Pulitzer Prize for doggedly documenting dozens of promises made and not kept — or funded via the Trump Foundation, which is a kitty of other people’s money.

We are sure the President has learned from past experience. We are sure this time, with all eyes on him and countless Texans in crying need, he will quickly make good on his promise.

So: Thank you, Mr. President.
