Oh, baby! Serena’s ace delivery is a girl
SERENA WILLIAMS will be serving up love to her new baby.
The tennis pro and fiancé Alexis Ohanian welcomed a baby girl Friday at St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach.
“Tennis star Serena Williams gives birth to a baby girl weighing 6 pounds, 13 ounces. Mom and baby doing well,” news producer Chris Shepherd of West Palm Beach station WPBF-25 announced on Twitter.
The new mom was induced on Thursday night, according to local station CBS 12.
News of the birth came just as Serena Williams’ older sister Venus was about to begin a match at the U.S. Open in Flushing, Queens.
“Obviously, I am super excited and words can’t describe it,” Venus Williams told reporters.
Williams, 35, announced her pregnancy on Snapchat in April with the photo caption “20 weeks” amid a series of images from the couple’s tropical getaway.
The four-time Olympic gold medalist (photo) later revealed she had posted the snap publicly by accident — and that it was really only meant for close friends. During an interview with CNBC’s “Squawk Box” in early July, Ohanian opened up about the parenting potential of his wife-to-be. “She’s very good at a lot of things and well on her way to being an awesome mom, too,” said Ohanian, the cofounder of Reddit. The Brooklynborn entrepreneur plans to take six weeks of paternity leave to focus on Williams and their new bundle of joy.
The 23-time Grand Slam champion previously announced that she would be taking maternity leave for the remainder of 2017. She has said she hopes to return for the Australian Open in January.
Williams was a few weeks pregnant back in January, when she beat her sister Venus to win the Australian Open.
She and Ohanian, 34, became engaged in December when he proposed at the same Rome hotel in which they met two years ago.
The two have yet to announce a wedding date.
