A BROOKLYN bicyclist, left with a severe head injury by a hit-and-run driver, fought for survival Friday as his brother vilified the stone-hearted suspect in the crash.

Family members kept a tense vigil at the hospital bedside of critically injured Jose Armas, 27, struck so hard that tufts of his tornout hair were found in the car’s smashed windshield.

“I don’t know how somebody can do this, to see him lying there,” said Sergio Armas, 37. “I just want to know what the hell happened and to do the right thing and get answers.”

The younger Armas was pedaling east along Willoughby Ave. in Fort Greene when a blue, four-door Subaru plowed into him near Washington Ave. shortly after midnight Thursday.

Armas bounced off the car’s hood and slammed into the windshield. He was rushed to New York Methodist Hospital.

Driver Joseph Garcia — who lives three blocks from the crash site — drove his severely damaged car for two blocks before abandoning the vehicle on DeKalb Ave., police said.

The windows were all rolled down, and cops found a fog light from the Subaru back at the crash scene.

Garcia bolted before surrendering several hours later at the 88th Precinct stationhouse. He was held on $75,000 bail for leaving the scene of an accident.

Court papers indicated that Garcia confessed to the crime, admitting he panicked and fled the scene. He also claimed that bicyclist Armas ran a red light before the wreck.

A neighbor said Garcia and his pals were troublemakers.

“Those kids are up to no good — him and his pals,” said the neighbor. “They sit in the car there in the driveway and smoke reefer all night. They’re loud.”

Armas suffered severe head trauma and a broken right arm — and was breathing with the help of a respirator.

“What I just want is just for him to get better,” said Sergio Armas. “He’s everything to me. He’s my best friend.”
