Bears ditch dancing Cruz

-

Victor Cruz won’t be Salsaing into the Bears’ end zone this year.

The former Giants star wide receiver was released by Chicago on Friday.

Cruz left Thursday’s preseason game against the Browns with a knee injury, which was not believed to be serious.

The Bears signed the 30-yearold Paterson (N.J.) product to a one-year deal in May, but he was unable to make a case for a spot ahead of Kendall Wright or Cameron Meredith, the team’s top receiver who tore his ACL. Cruz caught just six passes for 28 yards and didn’t impress among the Bears’ young pass catchers.

Cruz — who caught 39 passes for 586 yards and 1 TD for the Giants last season, but was phased out of the offense as the season went on — has played in just 21 games the past three seasons as injuries have taken their toll on the receiver since he tore his patellar tendon in 2014. — Healy
