Wilmer fouls ball into nose

- BY KRISTIE ACKERT

HOUSTON — It’s starting to get to the point where you wonder if the Mets are going to finish the season with nine major league players in the lineup.

Wilmer Flores left Saturday night’s game against the Astros in the fourth inning after taking a foul tip off his nose.

Terry Collins said after the game that Flores has a broken nose. The Mets infielder was escorted off the field with head trainer Ray Ramirez holding a cloth to his face to help absorb the blood.

Flores swung on a 2-2 count on an inside pitch and fouled the ball square off of his face. He immediately went down and covered his nose, which was bleeding heavily.

The Mets have lost Michael Conforto and Yoenis Cespedes for the rest of the season and Flores, who hit a grand slam in the first game of this doubleheader, was one of the remaining legitimate major league bats still in the lineup.
