Gov shifts into neutral in elex diss for mayor
GOV. CUOMO won’t endorse Mayor de Blasio in next week’s Democratic primary.
“I don’t vote in the primary election. I’m a Westchester resident,” Cuomo told reporters before marching in the New York Caribbean Carnival Parade.
While Cuomo doesn’t live in the city, he has offered endorsements in several city races — but his rival de Blasio won’t be among them.
“I’m not voting in this election, so I don’t have any primary endorsements at this time,” Cuomo said.
De Blasio is heavily favored in next Tuesday’s primary, where he faces former City Councilman Sal Albanese and a handful of other little-known competitors.
A rep for the mayor shrugged off the comment. “We didn’t ask for his support,” tweeted spokeswoman Monica Klein.
De Blasio and Cuomo have feuded for years.
De Blasio, for his part, declined to offer an early endorsement for Cuomo, who is up for reelection in 2018. “I’m talking about this year,” de Blasio told New York magazine when asked if he was willing to support a progressive challenger to Cuomo next year.
