Time to comment on work schedules

-

GOV. CUOMO wants the state to clock in and solicit public comments about employers who change workers’ schedules just hours before a shift starts. Cuomo on Saturday directed the state Labor Department to plan public hearings on employee scheduling concerns ahead of potential regulations. “These hearings will help guide us in crafting sensible protections to provide New Yorkers with fair and predictable work schedules,” Cuomo said. The hearings, to be held across the state, will seek public input on how the practice of on-call scheduling affects workers in retail and service industry jobs. “This will give hardworking men and women a platform to have their voices heard, and allow us to take another step toward a fairer, stronger New York for all,” Cuomo added. Last year, six major retailers agreed to end the on-call practice after state Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, along with attorneys general from seven other states and D.C., launched a multistate inquiry.
