Preg woman shot in head – she, baby live

A PREGNANT woman expecting her first child was fighting for her life after a gunman shot her twice in the head Sunday on a Brooklyn street — but the unborn child will survive, family members said.

A man fired at the 19-year-old expectant mom, Tytianna Sparks, about 12:40 p.m. on Dean St. near Howard Ave. in Brownsville before running off.

Medics rushed the victim to Brookdale University Hospital, where she was in critical condition, police said.

The victim’s mother, Ruth Sparks, 59, said she was picking up gifts for a baby shower later this month when she got the scary news from her husband.

She said Tytianna, who is five months pregnant, was conscious before going into surgery and the baby was in good condition. “It was OK,” Sparks said of her daughter. “She’s doing good. She was moving and everything.”

Sparks said Tytianna was hit with a bullet meant for someone else. “I just lost it,” the mother said. “It’s crazy. She was innocent, she was definitely innocent.” Tytianna’s sister, Corinne Sparks, 37, said she was relieved. “When I got there they said she’s conscious, she’s all right,” Corinne said. “The baby’s all right and God is good because it could’ve been the other way around. It could’ve been her and the baby dead.”

Cops scoured the area searching for clues that could lead them to the gunman.

“When I came downstairs, I heard a lady screaming,” said Louis Leak, 64, who knows the victim from the neighborhood. “She was laying between two cars and she didn’t look like she was alive to me. She was already bleeding out.”

Family and friends gathered Sunday at Brookdale waiting for news of Sparks’ condition.

Yvonne Stevenson, 47, recalled the victim’s niece running over to her wounded aunt after the shots rang out.

“She was kneeling over her trying to help her and hold her. She was in shock as well,” Stevenson said. “When they turned her around, you seen blood coming out her face and head.”

Sources said Sparks was wearing pink slippers when she was shot.
