Road-raging psycho’s grim bat bashing

AN IRATE driver who beat a furniture deliveryman with a bat, fracturing the worker’s skull in a Brooklyn road rage attack, was still being sought Monday, police sources said.

Daron James, 22, is in critical but stable condition at Brookdale Hospital, the sources said. He has swelling on the brain but is responding to some commands.

James was attacked in East Flatbush shortly before 5 p.m. Friday. Sources said he and co-worker Lionel Johnson, 79, double-parked on E. 48th St. near Avenue D so they could make a delivery.

The driver of a dark gray Honda Accordstarted honking his horn, demanding the victim move the van, according to Johnson.

But there was enough room for the suspect to pass, Johnson said.

As the driver did just that, he stopped to berate Johnson, who was in the van’s passenger seat.

“Brother, take it easy,” Johnson said he told the Accord driver. “You were able to drive past us. What’s the problem?”

The suspect drove a short distance but got out and went back to the van, threatening to open fire.

“What?” James asked the suspect. “Are you going to shoot me?”

Instead, the man went to his car, came back with a bat, rushed the victim and bashed him in the head before driving off.
