Jail for putting infant in trash

A STATEN Island woman who threw her newborn daughter out with the garbage will spend 12 years behind bars after taking a plea deal Tuesday.

Nausheen Rahman, 30, pleaded guilty to manslaughter Tuesday for tossing the baby girl into the trash outside her home on March 11, 2016.

Police found Rahman’s daughter unclothed in a plastic trash bag on Richmond Hill Road near Vassar St. in New Springville the next day. She had hidden the pregnancy from her parents and cut the umbilical cord herself. Then she lied to doctors in the hospital about why she was bleeding.

Rahman didn’t even know she had given birth to a girl, prosecutors said.

The medical examiner determined the baby was alive at birth.
