Stars’ Coney burger joint hits the Wahl
CONEY ISLAND’s location of Wahlburgers is toast — at least for now.
The outpost of the celebrity burger chain founded by actor Mark Wahlberg and his brothers, singer Donnie and Paul, a chef, shut down last week.
“The franchise group that heads up Coney Island is restructuring,” a rep for Wahlburgers tells the Daily News. “Now that we are through Labor Day weekend, it seems like the right time to close the restaurant.”
No firm date has been set for the reopening, the rep said. Posts on the Upper East Side and in Port Jefferson Station remain open.
Plenty of fans speculated on why the outpost may have shuttered.
“Terrible service, dirty tables and when food comes out cold, they actually ask you if you want it heated up,” a Facebook user named Millie Pobega Loughnane said under Wahlburgers’ post about the closing.
Others said the seasonal, seaside location may have been a factor.
