Hero clubs loon, saving two lives

- Kerry Burke and John Annese

A HERO NEIGHBOR clubbed a maniac over the head with a lamp to prevent him from tossing a Bronx mom and her 3-year-old daughter off a fire escape Wednesday night, cops and witnesses said.

The life-and-death struggle unfolded in a third-floor Cauldwell Ave. apartment near E. 149th St. in Woodstock. It ended with the mom stabbed in the stomach, the girlsliced in the arm, and the attacker cuffed.

Police said the 28-year-old attacker knew his victim from church, but they weren’t romantically involved. Rather, he was homeless and schizophrenic, and she’d occasionally help him by giving him a place to stay.

Rafael Lebron (photo), 45, rushed to action when he heard screams above him, around 7:40 p.m. “I grabbed a porcelain lamp and broke it over his head,” he said. “He was trying to throw them both off.”
