Letter scare hits Israeli Consulate
A SUSPICIOUS powder mailed in a letter threatening the Israeli prime minister forced the lockdown of the country’s consular office in New York, police sources said.
Police rushed to the consulate on Second Ave. at E. 42nd St., about a block from the United Nations, Friday afternoon, authorities said.
The letter accompanying the powder included a threat toward the Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, sources said.
No one was sickened or evacuated. Members of the NYPD Emergency Service Unit secured the substance to test it.
An official with the Israeli Embassy declined to comment.
