Silvery sheens on actresses – men don jackets of all shades
METALLICS RULED the Emmys on Sunday night as glittery gowns flooded the red carpet. As they glided in, actresses went with shimmery dresses and muted tones. Susan Kelechi Watson, Laverne Cox, Tracee Ellis Ross, Sarah Paulson, Jessica Biel and Anna Chlumsky matched in stunning silver, but Tessa Thompson dominated the carpet in metallic reds, greens and blues. Ellie Kemper went with blue metallic, while Gina Rodriguez wore sparkling red. Reese Witherspoon, star of the fan favorite “Big Little Lies,” stayed demure with pin-straight hair and a long-sleeved dress more resembling a suit jacket than an Emmys gown. Evan Rachel Wood stepped out in a gorgeous fitted white tuxedo jacket and matching flared pants. Felicity Huffman looked glam in a low-cut, backless pale blue dress, sideswept bangs and the perfect accessory: her actor husband, William H. Macy. Sofia Vergara stunned as always in a high ponytail and strapless white gown, but Heidi Klum fell flat in limp hair and overdone jewelry.
Kathyrn Hahn missed as well, wearing a shift that started shimmery and ended in polka dots resembling a shower curtain. Mandy Moore’s black and white dress looked more cupcake topper than Emmys gown.
The men stayed simple in their attire, making their statements with their jackets: green on Jesse Tyler Ferguson, navy on James Corden, white on Anthony Anderson and Ron Cephas Jones, yellow on Tituss Burgess and purple on Caleb McLaughlin.
The young stars of the night stunned, too, as the “Stranger Things” kids went elaborate in gaudy suit jackets.
But Millie Bobby Brown pulled off her look the best in a delicate strapless gown with a tight bun and sparkly heels that made her look like a ballerina — or a princess. Kiernan Shipka dressed her age in a soft floor-length, flesh-colored gown with beaded embroidery on the bodice, while Ariel Winter opted for slinky with two crotch-high slits on a silver and black dress with a low back.
In the heat of Los Angeles, the stars shone.
