Cuomo: OK, fine, I endorse Blaz

AFTER STAYING on the sidelines in the primary, Gov. Cuomo on Monday said he will back Mayor de Blasio over Republican challenger Nicole Malliotakis in the November general election.

“The mayor won the Democratic primary. I am a Democrat. I support Democrats and I’ll support Mayor de Blasio in the general,” Cuomo said during an appearance on WNYC public radio.

Pressed whether he’s only endorsing the mayor, with whom he has feuded, because the two are both Democrats, Cuomo said that wasn’t the case. “Life is options, they say, right?” Cuomo said. “I think in this contest, he is the better person to serve the City of New York as mayor. Period.”

Malliotakis said it was “sad” that Cuomo chose “party politics over what is right for New Yorkers.”
