Kin fury at Ga. Tech slay
A GEORGIA Tech student shot dead by police was having a mental breakdown and posed no threat to cops, a lawyer for the student’s parents said Monday at a tearful press conference.
Scout Schultz, 21, was shot late Saturday on the Atlanta campus. Schultz ignored numerous orders to drop a knife — and walked toward cops when told to halt.
“Shoot me!” the barefoot Schultz shouted. The student with a 3.9 grade-point average was hit with a single shot to the heart and died at a local hospital.
Attorney Chris Stewart stood next to Schultz’s parents, Bill and Lynne Schultz, on Monday holding a multipurpose tool similar to the one Schultz was wielding when the shooting occurred. The blade wasn’t extended, Stewart said.
“People have breakdowns sometimes,” Stewart said. “That doesn’t mean they deserved to die.”
