Matt’s long, short night

-

MIAMI — It isn’t getting easier for Matt Harvey, but he doesn’t want to stop. The righthander, who vented his frustration last week about an extended recovery from Thoracic Outlet Syndrome surgery, could not even muster anger and frustration after getting beaten again Monday night. He simply had no answers.

Harvey got chased in the fifth as the Mets were hammered by the Marlins, 13-1, at Marlins Park.

The Mets (65-85) allowed at least 10 runs in a game for the 18th time this season. The Marlins (70-80) improved to 10-7 against the Mets this season.

“There is no reason for questions, there are no answers,” Harvey said after the loss. “You are going to write what you want to write anyways, obviously it’s deserved. Whatever you want to write, there is nothing to say.”

Harvey went just four innings, allowing seven earned runs on 12 hits. He walked two and struck out two. He has allowed 24 earned runs in 14.1 innings pitched since missing more than two months on the disabled list with shoulder weakness.

But Harvey wants to keep trying, making the last two starts of the season, to try and make some progress.

“This is my job, this is what I am supposed to do. Keep pushing, go back out there and do everything you can to be better and go back out there,” Harvey said. “That’s obviously not working, so I got to figure something else out.”

Four of the 12 hits off him were infield singles, but Giancarlo Stanton hammered him in the fourth for his 55th home run of the season.

Dee Gordon’s diving stop of Dominic Smith’s sharp groundball in the third, laying full-out to get his glove on the ball and throwing him out from his knees.

The Marlins’ seven-run fifth inning chased Harvey and beat up the bullpen.
