90 days in jail for hate tags in Qns. nabe
A QUEENS man will spend three months behind bars for spraying homophobic, political graffiti on 25 houses and businesses in his neighborhood.
Yaacov Shemesh, 53, wrote bigoted remarks like “Obama f----t” on buildings within walking distance of his Astoria home between December and May.
Police say he tagged the shared offices of state Sen. Michael Gianaris and state Assemblywoman Aravella Simotas several times.
Some of his graffiti also used Hillary Clinton and Mayor de Blasio’s names, prosecutors said.
“For months, he plastered messages of hate and intolerance on various structures throughout Astoria, Queens,” said Queens District Attorney Richard Brown.
Officers on patrol recognized him from a wanted poster on June 2.
Shemesh pleaded guilty to criminal mischief Tuesday, and he’ll be sentenced Nov. 1 to 90 days in jail, five years of probation and sensitivity training.
