Hip hop star: Cops put me in chokehold
THE HIP HOP star Cardi B claimed in a social media post that cops put her in a banned chokehold, but police say she never filed a complaint about it.
Cardi B, whose real name is Belcalis Almanzar, 24, said on Twitter Tuesday, “I can’t believe this cop put me on a choke hole just now s--- is crazy these NY cops don't know how to do they job F--- 12.”
“F--- 12” is an expletive directed toward police. The 12 refers to a team of narcotics cops knocking down a door.
Almanzar (photo) quickly removed the tweet when it started getting significant attention. The NYPD said she didn’t file a report about the incident.
“The NYPD was made aware of a tweet made by rapper Cardi B, which was since deleted, and indicated an alleged interaction between the NYPD and her,” an department spokesman said. “The NYPD has no record or any other information to support the validity of this claim.”
A rep for the rapper was not immediately available.
The Bronx-born rapper’s single “Bodak Yellow” is currently No. 2 on the U.S Billboard Hot 100 chart. It has sold more than 500,000 copies.
