Long train of abuses

-

With poor schlub commuters forced to endure awful daily indignities and the subway system’s dashboard of performance indicators subject, of course, to delays, the man in charge insists there’s light at the end of the tunnel. “I would venture to say if you were looking very carefully, you would see improvement already,” Gov. Cuomo told reporters Tuesday, basing his belief on unnamed “people who say the tracks look cleaner or the service seems better.” Hmm.

Then the governor threw out this doozy, in trying to explain away last week’s epic mishaps. After pointing out, fairly, that when “A Con Ed generator blows up, it’s not the fault of the MTA,” he added, “A piece of track breaks off, it’s not the fault of the MTA. Those things will always happen.”

In his January State of the State speech, Cuomo said: “Our people still lack trust in government and for good cause. And the government must do more to earn trust.”

Maybe start by admitting that keeping subway tracks in good repair is the responsibility of the transit system he oversees.
