Pol to employers: Abandon chip!
ALBANY — A state lawmaker is looking to stop employers from getting under workers’ skins with microchips.
Sen. Tony Avella (D-Queens) introduced legislation this week that would prohibit the “forced microchipping” of employees as a condition of employment.
“No employee should be forced to sacrifice their bodily autonomy as a prerequisite to obtaining or keeping their employment,” said Avella.
The bill would make it a misdemeanor for any employer to mandate implants.
An Avella spokesman said the legislation was sparked by a letter from a constituent alarmed by a news story about a Wisconsin tech company that had begun to implant rice-sized microchips in workers who volunteered to have them. The chip allows workers to enter the building and buy food in the cafeteria.
