Critical after escape leap from Bruckner
A MAN IN NEW YORK State Police custody was critically injured after he escaped and jumped off the Bruckner Expressway in the Bronx Thursday, authorities said.
A state trooper pulled the man over at about 5 p.m. on the elevated highway near Rosedale Ave. in Soundview, and was in the process of arresting him on drug charges, when the man made a run for it, state police spokesman Beau Duffy said.
The motorist, who was in handcuffs, climbed over a barrier and jumped onto Rosedale Avenue, badly hurting himself in the process, Duffy said.
Medics took him to Jacobi Medical Center in critical condition, an FDNY spokesman said.
His identity has not been released, and Duffy couldn’t immediately say what led to the traffic stop.
