As Jenkins sits out again

try to play chest to chest,” Apple said. “That’s something we practice all the time and I didn’t incorporate during that time. It’s something I’ve definitely been working on this week.”

It’s those little mistakes the Giants cannot afford to make.

But defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo has faith in Apple’s ability to be that shutdown corner should Jenkins not play.

“I know Eli (Apple) had the one play and he has to play it better and get an incomplete or pick it off,” he said. “But Eli had five tackles, a QB hit and at least five or six times when they weren’t able to throw the ball to his guy because he had him covered, so I think he’s doing a solid job over there.”

Jenkins is not the only void the Giants may need to fill on Sunday, though.

Linebacker B.J. Goodson also missed practice, working on a stationary bike as he continues to deal with a lower leg injury.

Goodson’s presence was felt in Week 1 with 18 tackles, but without him in Week 2 the Giants had several missed tackles to raise their season total to 18 missed tackles — seventh-worst in the NFL.

Spagnuolo said undrafted rookie Calvin Munson did an “admirable” job filling in for Goodson. Injured linebacker Keenan Robinson could also be nearing a return.

Robinson, who had 83 tackles last season and can be used in pass coverage, participated in his first practice on Thursday since mid-August after being in concussion protocol.

“He’s a guy who understands what we’re doing,” Spagnuolo said. “Get him in some subpackages, we’ll have to decide which way we go … but it’s good to have him around.”
