Mighty recently wrote of Shine’s Bar in Long Beach hosting “Shine's 20th Annual New York to California Bike Tour.” A few readers were wondering how Shine’s could possibly run a bike race from New York to California ... IN ONE DAY. Here’s how:

Named after its first owner, Eugene Shine, Shine’s opened in 1912, the year the Titanic sank in the Atlantic. Current owners Brent Wilson and his wife Megan Casey took over in 2005 and have won the affection of this close-knit neighborhood. Here’s the secret to the bike tour: Shine’s Bar sits on West Beech St. between New York St. and California St. The faithful from Shine’s meet at New York St. at 3 p.m. One ride around the block and you’ve completed the “New York to California Bike Tour.”

“Happy birthday to Ariana Jalia, who turns 6 years old today, from the entire BEL (Bet, Eat and Lose) Club.” — GK.

Mighty missed with the Rams on Thursday and likes Boise State on Friday. The deficit is 875 sirignanos.
