Matching moolah for Mallio run
REPUBLICAN MAYORAL contender Nicole Malliotakis says her longshot campaign has opened “a whole new chapter” by qualifying for matching funds.
Malliotakis, a state Assemblywoman from Staten Island, announced Friday that she has raised $748,600 for her campaign against Mayor de Blasio, a Democrat.
The fund-raising totals, which included $241,500 raised since August, should be more than enough to qualify for the Campaign Finance Board’s matching funds program, her campaign said. They expect to receive a payout of approximately $1.6 million by Sept. 28.
Records show that among Malliotakis’ bundlers was billionaire charter school backer Dan Loeb, who made headlines over the summer with racially charged comments about state Senate Democratic Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins. He raised $4,525 for Malliotakis, records show.
De Blasio has raised about $5.3 million in contributions, including $270,000 since Aug. 29, his campaign reported.
