Defense shows

Leonard Williams dissected the film from the Jets’ 20-6 victory over the Dolphins on Sunday, and the defensive lineman came away impressed with how his unit committed to stopping the run.

The Jets limited Miami to 30 yards on the ground, including just 16 yards on 11 carries for standout running back Jay Ajayi.

“To me, the most (important thing) was the passion and energy that I’ve seen us playing with on defense,” Williams said. “Guys were flying around. Guys were playing for one another. Guys were getting in the backfield, penetratin­g. We were basically just doing everything that we’ve practiced all week, and it showed in the game.”

The Jets allowed 370 rushing yards over their first two games and were victimized by chunkyarda­ge runs, including two of touchdowns of 40 or more yards in a 45-20 loss to the Raiders.

Todd Bowles demanded more out of his defensive front, and according to Williams, the group “answered the challenge” by banding together. Williams said the increased passion and energy is a direct result of a closer-knit team.
