REYES’ EX OUT AT ‘FIST’

Brass knuckles bust at court

- BY BRIAN NIEMIETZ

CHRISTINA SANCHEZ arrived at the courthouse in Nassau County on Tuesday to do battle with Mets star Jose Reyes — but she got into a streetfight instead.

The mother of Reyes’ 8-year-old daughter, Liyah, showed up for her ongoing child support case on Tuesday afternoon, but she wound up in a parking lot dustup with two women over what appeared to be a road rage incident — and got arrested for being in possession of brass knuckles.

Sanchez (bottom, right) was supposed to have met her attorney, Steven Gilden, outside a Starbucks 50 yards from the courthouse before her 2 p.m. court date, a source with knowledge of the episode said. Instead, she was spotted shouting angrily with two women outside of her car.

When Sanchez got back into her car, the source said, the other women splashed her vehicle with coffee and pounded on the doors. Police showed up and took Sanchez in on misdemeanor charges of menacing and criminal possession of a weapon. She was later released.

The two other women were not taken into custody, the source said, adding there was no physical contact between Reyes (bottom, left) and the two women, and the brass knuckles were not used.

“Obviously, Christina was unable to appear at 2 p.m. for the court appearance, however, Jose Reyes didn’t appear, either,” according to Gilden, who confirmed the incident and said he had planned to call Reyes as his first witness. Gilden said Reyes’ attorneys asked that the case be dismissed, which the judge refused to do. A new hearing is scheduled for Dec. 13.

On Monday night, Reyes’ other 8-year-old daughter, Josephine Reyes, whose mom, Katherine, married the Met in 2008, sang the national anthem at Citi Field before the Mets’ matchup with the Atlanta Braves.

Gilden said Monday that if Reyes showed up in court, it would be the first time he and Sanchez had seen each other in two years. He said that was also the last time Reyes saw Liyah, who was not with her mother during Tuesday’s melee.

Sanchez is asking the court for $40,000 a month in child support, arguing the $18,000 monthly payments Reyes makes are not enough since he appears to have decided not to be involved in his daughter’s life in any other fashion.

It’s been a very emotional process so far for Sanchez, who was tossed out of the courtroom on June 6 after angering the judge with a teary outburst.

“Yes, my client showed her emotions today, but it was out of love for her child,” Gilden said Tuesday.
