EVEN THOUGH the Carmelo Anthony opened up his trade options to include Cleveland, the Knicks were operating at a point of disadvantage since the Cavs weren’t offering anything valuable. Now we know why.

According to multiple reports, Dwyane Wade agreed to join the Cavs and buddy LeBron James on a 1-year, $2.3M contract after agreeing to a buyout with the Bulls. The reunion would’ve turned Anthony into the surplus, sending him to the bench. Wade, on the other hand, was simply signed as a free agent. The Knicks, according to a source, asked the Cavaliers for young rebounding machine Tristan Thompson, but Cleveland wouldn’t move from their package featuring former Knicks Iman Shumpert and Channing Frye.

Thompson said he was flattered by the Knicks’ interest. “I guess my value is pretty up there, I would say,” he told reporters Tuesday. “For Carmelo Anthony? Not bad.”
