25 years since last such slay

-

UNTIL Wednesday’s stabbing in the Bronx, a killing had not occurred inside a city school for nearly a quarter-century. These are the last few times it happened: FEB. 24, 1993 A 15-year-old emotionally disabled student at Junior High School 25 on the Lower East Side stabbed a classmate to death. School officials at the time said there were a series of altercations between the two when John Rodriguez killed Angel Jimenez. SEPT. 21, 1992 Damion Ennis, 15, was stabbed to death in a hallway at South Shore High School in Canarsie, Brooklyn. He was attacked by classmate Michael Bubb, who was wielding a dagger, police said at the time. A dean and school security guard saw the attack and grabbed Bubb, but it was too late for Ennis. FEB. 26, 1992 A teen gunman shot two rivals to death inside Thomas Jefferson High School in Brooklyn. The shooting took place just 15 feet from two police officers and happened about an hour before then-Mayor David Dinkins had planned to visit the school. Schools have not been immune to violence since then: JAN. 15, 2002 Two students, ages 16 and 17, were shot inside Martin Luther King Jr. High School on the Upper West Side but survived. JUNE 18, 2014 Noel Estevez, 14, fatally stabbed Timothy Crump, also 14, outside Intermediate School 117 on Morris Ave. in Mount Hope, the Bronx. Police said Estevez killed his classmate, and onetime friend, because he had robbed him and taken his cell phone. Jillian Jorgensen and Thomas Tracy
