METSGAMEDAY

- By KRISTIE ACKERT

PHILADELPHIA — The wind could not stop Asdrubal Cabrera. The Mets third baseman powered a ball into the hard-blowing wind in left field for a three-run homer in the top of the 11th inning to beat the Phillies 7-4 at Citizens Bank Park. “He’s a pro. After the middle of the season, when we were switching positions and stuff, I knew he was going to settle in and be the kind of guy,” Terry Collins said. “He’s a baseball player, loves to play. He’s a great teammate and he’s gotten big hits. He’s had a tremendous month for us.”

The Mets have won four of five, getting just their third extrainnings win of the season. Cabrera went 4-for-4 with the home run, a double and four RBI. In September, Cabrera is 33-for-87 (.379) with 17 RBI. Overall this year, he is hitting .280 with 14 home runs and 59 RBI in 135 games. “Absolutely,” Cabrera said when asked if he’s shown enough to have his option picked up. I’ve not hit as many homers like last year. But I think all the numbers are still there. I always say it’s not how you start, it’s how you finish. We have one more game left, I’ll do my best.”

Brandon Nimmo hit his first career triple in the fifth, driving in two runs. The outfielder’s two RBI, which followed Amed Rosario’s RBI-single in the fourth, gave the Mets the lead. Cabrera’s double in the seventh gave the Mets a two-run cushion.
