‘How wrong I was about gun control’

- Stephen Rex Brown

A GUITAR PLAYER who performed at a Las Vegas country music festival before a gunman killed at least 59 concertgoers said Monday the horrific experience made him realize “how wrong I was” about gun control.

Caleb Keeter (photo), the lead guitar player in the Josh Abbott Band, posted a lengthy statement on Twitter saying he’d been a lifelong supporter of the Second Amendment — until he saw members of his band’s crew wounded by shrapnel.

The Texas-based band performed Sunday afternoon, hours before Stephen Paddock opened fire.

“We need gun control RIGHT. NOW,” Keeter wrote.

“My biggest regret is that I stubbornly didn’t realize it until my brothers on the road and myself were threatened by it.”

He said members of the crew had concealed-carry licenses and legal firearms stashed on the band’s bus — but the weapons were useless.

“We couldn’t touch them for fear police might think that we were part of the massacre and shoot us,” Keeter tweeted.

“Writing my parents and the love of my life a goodbye last night and a living will because I felt like I wasn’t going to live through the night was enough for me to realize that this is completely and totally out of hand.”

He indicated on Twitter he would join the effort to reduce gun violence.
