‘homeless’ on run for gracie mansion
HE MIGHT NOT make it to City Hall — but one mayoral hopeful will get as far as City Hall Park where he’s “going homeless” for a week to highlight the city’s homelessness crisis.
Long-shot candidate Mike Tolkin says he’ll be sleeping in the park with no money, food, or change of clothes — though he will have his smart phone to live cast and tweet the experience.
“By design, I am jumping into this without any preparation. No money, no food. What you see is what you get in terms of clothing, and I will do what I need to do to survive for the week,” Tolkin said Tuesday outside City Hall.
He’s running for mayor on his own “Smart Cities” ballot line, after getting less than 5% of the vote in last month’s Democratic primary.
“This is an act of protest,” Tolkin said. “I want to make this issue more visible and more humanized.”
