PLAYBOY FOUNDER Hugh Hefner died from a heart attack and respiratory failure, his death certificate revealed.

The 91-year-old was suffering from a blood infection and a drugresistant strain of E. coli bacteria six days before he died last Wednesday, according to the document posted on TMZ.

Hefner (inset) was laid to rest next to ultimate sex symbol Marilyn Monroe at Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery in Los Angeles on Saturday.

Monroe appeared in the inaugural issue of Playboy in December 1953.

Hefner reportedly bought the crypt next to the superstar in 1992, for $75,000.

His wife, former Playmate Crystal Harris, has opened up about her loss in an interview with People magazine.

“I haven’t been able to bring myself to write most people back to thank them for their condolences,” Harris told People magazine. “I am heartbroken. I am still in disbelief.”
