I tried to scam GM: car dealer
A BIG-TIME car dealer linked to a disgraced politician admitted Wednesday to trying to hoodwink General Motors out of money so he could build a new dealership.
Lilaahar (Sammy) Bical, the man behind Kristal Auto Mall, told a Brooklyn federal judge he had someone cook up “a phony confidentiality agreement” so the auto giant would stop pressing for specifics on Bical’s land deal with New York City and just open its wallet instead.
Bical wanted to put the GM dealership on Brooklyn land he bought from the city, with the help of convicted ex-state Sen. John Sampson (photo inset).
Bical, 60, copped to conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud. He wanted to fleece GM out of up to $15 million, according to prosecutors. PEOPLE HELD in city jails routinely languish behind bars for a day, or more, after their bail is posted — or attempts are made to post it — violating their constitutional rights, a lawsuit alleges.
Those delayed detainees wrongly sit in cells because the city’s “byzantine and inhumane bail system” is rife with bureaucratic barriers that slow down timely release, according to the suit filed Wednesday in Manhattan Federal Court.
The suit, which seeks class-action status, also comes shortly after two exclusive Daily News reports detailing allegations from inmates who say they were held too long.
